Abstract

The article demonstrates that during contraction, a muscle shortens, bringing its attachment point closer to its origin while exerting a specific force. Muscle strength depends on a range of anatomical, physiological, and mechanical factors. Anatomically, strength is determined by the muscle's structure: the greater the number and thickness of muscle fibers and the more abundant the rigid connective tissue elements, the stronger the muscle; thus, muscle strength is directly proportional to the number of muscle fibers and the muscle's physiological cross-sectional area. The formula is F = ap²/³, where F represents force, a represents physical fitness, and p represents body weight. The constituent elements of the speed factor are also components of other motor abilities, particularly agility. The latent period of a motor reaction encompasses the execution speed of a single movement and the frequency of movement. The article goes on to provide a detailed explanation of agility—describing it as the manifestation of a person's ability to perform complex, coordinated movements; to switch rapidly and precisely from one coordinated action to another; and to quickly devise and execute new movements in response to unexpected demands arising from changing conditions. It illustrates this concept by citing the skillful, elegant, and highly precise movements performed by weightlifters, gymnasts, and acrobats.
